It has been talked about for 25 years and finally the city of Sassari has its own Civic School of Music . A precious and indispensable element of connection with the other institutes in the area , such as primary schools, the musical high school, musical bands, polyphonic and folk choirs and naturally the "Canepa" musical conservatory which has already established a close collaboration.

The Civic School of Music was inaugurated this morning in the elegant Tomè building , a building from the second half of the 19th century that belonged to Baron Apostoli and then purchased in the 1920s by Commendator Giuseppe Tomè, a dealer and art collector who had made a fortune with his emporium still located in piazza Azuni, but in the upper part.

The school consists of five classrooms, a small secretariat and a conference-direction room , as well as two bathrooms. Three pianos , two drum kits , five guitars , as well as tambourines , triangles and various small instruments complete the equipment which will probably be expanded in the next few years .

How much an institution of this kind was missing in the city is demonstrated by the success of pre-registrations: as many as 177 . Divided as follows: 43 students in the preparatory musical course (for girls and boys up to 8 years of age), 90 in the basic-amateur course, 28 students in the advanced course and 16 in the specialization course.

Classes will start next week.

The mayor Nanni Campus was present at the inauguration and press conference, who also symbolically cut the ribbon, the councilor for educational policies Laura Useri , the councilor for heritage Rosanna Arru , the artistic and educational director Antonio Mura and that of the conservatory Mariano Meloni .
