Now there is alarm, in La Maddalena, after a child was bitten by a wild boar ( receiving six stitches ), on the island of Spargi, in Cala Corsara. And for Tuesday morning, at 9.30, the mayor Fabio Lai has called a Technical Table to decide what to do, with the Port Authority, the National Park, the Forestry and the Barracellare Company.
Since the beginning of the summer, wild boars have been seen on that island, alone or in groups, “brazenly” roaming the crowded beaches, stealing bags, purses and backpacks from bathers. All of this has been filmed and photographed and uploaded online. “This is a problem for which the National Park has no jurisdiction,” said the director, Giulio Plastina, in June.
"I am aware that there is a criticality there but we as a Park operate within the Plan, approved by all the bodies, for the eradication of wild boar; in this case it is the mayor, if he considers it a situation of public safety, who will have to publish an ordinance that provides for the methods of intervention. In this case the Park, faced with a request for collaboration, would be fully available".
The same position expressed in June by the director Giulio Plastina was reiterated this afternoon by the extraordinary commissioner of the Park, Rosanna Giudice. What did not work this winter in Spargi, within the eradication plan, were the rifle interventions of the "selecontrollori". The operations in fact led to the killing of only one specimen.
