Charity during the military exercise, the center-left in the Region (without the PD): «We distance ourselves»

«We feel we must distance ourselves from the "solidarity" actions carried out on the occasion of the inter-force exercises that will be held on 10 and 11 May in Cagliari ».
This is what the centre-left groups in the regional council reiterate, following those of the municipal council of the capital , in a joint note signed by the 5 Star Movement, Avs and Sinistra Futura (without the PD) regarding the Joint Stars 2025 Defence exercise, during which « a series of charity, social inclusion and sporting initiatives will take place».
"The Republican Constitution is clear: Italy repudiates war - we read in the note released by the three groups - and this means that every action aimed at justifying and making war popular and socially accepted must be banned . For this reason, every action aimed at promoting its cultural acceptance must be firmly rejected by us".
M5S, Avs and Sinistra Futura also condemn «with great concern» the European Parliament Resolution of 2 April 2025 on the implementation of the common security and defence policy, which among other things «calls on the EU and its Member States to develop educational and awareness-raising programmes, particularly for young people, aimed at improving knowledge and facilitating debates on security, defence and the importance of the armed forces , and to strengthen the resilience and preparedness of societies to security challenges». They also criticise the Bill 1887 promoted by the centre-right, «which deeply undermines the regions' competences in environmental matters, taking away all control over the territories where military complexes are located. A proposal – they argue – that represents a real attack on regional autonomy and that could reduce control over military areas, equating the clean-up standards of these areas to those of disused industrial sites, with consequent concerns for the environmental implications and for the well-being of citizens. And we cannot accept this ».
The note from the three groups of the regional council continues: « Sardinia wants to be a builder of peace and a culture of nonviolence ; we cannot therefore accept policies of the national government and the EU that aim to popularize this terrible instrument of offense. We do not want to send our sons and daughters, our grandchildren to war and for this reason we must firmly reject the idea of making fun and attractive everything that promotes the culture of weapons, violence and war . In this particular historical moment – conclude M5S, Avs and Sinistra Futura – in which some would like to empty the granaries to fill the arsenals, we feel the duty to be a dissonant voice to be builders of peace and an authentic garrison of our republican Constitution. For these reasons we reiterate our distance from this initiative».
Francesco Agus (Progressisti) also expressed his opinion on the issue, according to whom «it is unacceptable that a crucial decision for Sardinian healthcare, such as the establishment of a pediatric intensive care unit - requested for years and culpably blocked
- be treated as an external concession by entities, such as the armed forces, which certainly do not have that function. But what are we talking about? The resources, both professional and economic, are there and have never been the problem!
We need clarity on the role played in this affair by Arnas Brotzu: by what right did it take this initiative? Was the Region involved? And above all, it is serious that it is hypothesized to create this department (regardless of who pays the costs)
sacrificing spaces currently destined for intensive care for transplant recipients, creating a conflict between rights and needs that should never exist."
