It will take 45 to 70 days before we see the baby Caretta caretta turtles emerge from their eggs and reach the sea. The first nest on the beach of La Pelosa in Stintino has been placed under protection by the Crama operators , a delimited area of about fifteen square meters that needs adequate protection also against possible storm surges.

"It is one of the risks that we must evaluate together with the regional scientific referents, with whom we must reason to decide which system to adopt for the management of the nest and protect it from high tides", said Laura Pireddu of Crama, the Marine Animal Recovery Centre on the island of Asinara who, just last night at dusk, together with her colleagues inspected the entire area where the turtle had laid its eggs the night before.

With the appropriate tools and a wand, the Crama operators measured the consistency of the sand, which was rather compact, inserting a thermometer to monitor the temperature, which varies depending on the weather, which acts as an incubator and speeds up or slows down the development and, therefore, the birth of the young. "This is a late nesting", she added, "occurred by a young turtle in a period when hatching normally occurs".

We work in collaboration with the forces in the field, local police and barracellare company of Stintino, so that the buffer zone is closed with a soft fishing net, therefore also monitored against potential predators.
