Hundreds of administrative seizure notices , the concrete risk for citizens of seeing their cars blocked by wheel clamps if they do not demonstrate that they have paid taxes as requested by the municipal offices.

Capoterra is a city in turmoil: after the decision of the Municipality, through its collection agency, to activate the procedure provided by law that leads to the seizure of vehicles of delinquent taxpayers , the offices have been stormed by citizens dealing with requests for payment that go well beyond the terms of the statute of limitations.

The notices concern municipal taxes such as the water service - until last year managed by the Municipality - but also Imu and Tari . To avoid the blocking of their vehicle, citizens will have to present the receipts of the payments made to the offices of the collection company Step: vehicles used for the transport of disabled people or those for business use instrumental to the functioning of the work activity will not be subject to any administrative blocking.

In a note, the Tax and Non-Tax Revenue Management sector clarifies the situation: « The decision to proceed with the sending of administrative seizure notices in accordance with the provisions in force was taken in order to guarantee tax equity and compliance with tax obligations by taxpayers , in addition to being a required act. The sending of the administrative seizure notice is intended to communicate the possibility of activating the procedure, allowing recipients to regularize their position without further consequences. We ask interested taxpayers to contact the operators in order to resolve the situation: any cancellation or rectification of the administrative seizure notice can only occur in the event of cancellation of the original act with definitive closure of the practice».

The mayor, Beniamino Garau, asks citizens to be patient and explains how this procedure will reorganize the tax registry once and for all: "This situation is caused by the lack of alignment of part of the data processed by the various collection companies that have succeeded one another over the years ; however, it is possible that some documents concern situations that the taxpayer believed to be already defined. All situations will be carefully evaluated by our offices, furthermore I and the city councilors will also be available on Saturdays to provide support to citizens. If the green light from the Government were to arrive, our Municipality will continue the scrapping of old tax bills".

From the opposition benches, former mayor Francesco Dessì criticizes the methods used to sort out the situation of unpaid taxes: «This situation is creating quite a bit of confusion among citizens, I saw people queuing outside the offices with bills of 20 thousand and even 50 thousand euros for the water service : in the end, the advantages promised by the mayor thanks to the friendly tax project have not been seen».
