He was contesting the boundaries between some lands, trying to delimit them with wire mesh and stakes as he saw fit, then when the carabinieri arrived he went berserk, hitting a soldier on the forearm with a metal pliers and punching another . It happened in the early hours of today in Ussaramanna, where a 77-year-old local farmer was later arrested on charges of trespassing, illegal possession of objects capable of offending and violence against public officials.

The request for intervention came to the emergency number 112 from a sixty-three-year-old woman, who reported the presence of the man inside a piece of land she owned adjacent to the family home . The carabinieri, who arrived on the scene in a few minutes, ordered him to move away. The man, in a state of great agitation, then reacted by brandishing cutting pliers and hitting a soldier on the forearm and then punching a second carabiniere, causing both of them bruises that were later deemed to heal in a few days.

Immobilized by the military, the arrested man continued to struggle so much that he needed medical attention which was provided to him by the 118 personnel who promptly intervened and, subsequently, by the hospital of San Gavino Monreale.

The subsequent search to which the farmer was subjected led to the seizure of two switchblades and the same pliers used in the attack.

At the end of the formal procedures, by order of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Cagliari, the man was placed under house arrest at his home, pending the hearing scheduled for today.
