The funeral of Luca Mameli took place today in Capoterra, the 35-year-old killed last week at the Poetto di Quartu Sant'Elena by a stab wound.

The ceremony, in the afternoon, in the church of San Francesco.

But already half an hour earlier there were at least a hundred people present and the entrance to the building is covered with a carpet of floral wreaths.

Mameli, according to the investigators' reconstruction, was fatally struck by the blow launched by 21-year-old Alessio Desogus who, after the crime, allegedly burned his bloodstained clothes.

All of Capoterra wanted to gather around the family members in giving a last farewell to Luca. An entire community led by Mayor Beniamino Garau who filled the church of San Francesco. With family members petrified by pain in front of that white coffin, the parish priest Don Gianni Locci announced, at the beginning of the function, the fact that the archbishop of Cagliari Giuseppe Baturi who would have liked to attend had been blocked by plane delays in Catania.

The exit from the church was touching: after a very long applause from those present in the churchyard, a representation of the Sconvolts ("He was a fan, one of us"), holding a long banner with the inscription "Ciao Luca", sang the chorus "Luca lives".
