The Supreme Court confirmed the second degree sentence to 18 years in prison established by the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Cagliari against Ignazio Frailis , the 50-year-old from Capoterra who killed his neighbor, Maria Bonaria Contu with 11 stab wounds .

The judges therefore rejected both the appeal of the Attorney General who had asked for a heavier sentence , and that of the defenders who aimed at a greater burden of the psychological disorders of the accused.

The crime dates back to five years ago, on May 17, 2017 . Contu was walking with her friends in the park of the mountain community when she was shot to death by Frailis , according to the accusation that she was being insulted by the woman's parrot . A friend was injured.

Frailis had been sentenced in the first instance to 22 and a half years , but the sentence had been reduced on appeal by 4 and a half years: the judges had decided to remove the aggravating circumstances of premeditation and futile reasons for the partial mental illness that emerged in the trial of first degree.
