Without money from the Region, goodbye to Cagliari's new stadium. Without necessarily wanting to be so blunt, this is the risk that we are now running in the game for the construction of the new facility. Because the financial chapter that everyone thought was closed after the Region-Municipality program agreement of a year ago, with which Villa Devoto should have transferred 50 million to Palazzo Bacaredda (to then be passed on to Cagliari football club) as a public contribution to the construction of the new stadium, is actually not closed. Not yet, at least. And that money, in fact, is not there. At least for the moment.

The city councilor for sports Giuseppe Macciotta explains: «Given that the process for the new stadium is proceeding smoothly with full and harmonious collaboration between the Municipality of Cagliari and the Region», there is a problem to be resolved related to the funds of the program agreement. « I am referring to the lack of explicit approval by President Solinas of the program agreement for the stadium in December 2023 which has so far prevented the transfer of resources between the Region and the Municipality».

So far the bad news. The good news, however, is that «this obligation will now surely be met by the new regional administration», namely the president Alessandra Todde, «after having completed all the necessary, due and essential urban planning and financial coverage studies. Thus demonstrating the marked sensitivity towards this project so important for the city and the regional administration itself», reassures councilor Macciotta. Cagliari and Sardinia are waiting.
