Two historic associations that have always enlivened Cagliari's traditional carnival will not be participating in 2026. Sa Ratantira Casteddaia and ASC Senza Confini Rione Marina have announced that they will not be participating in the festivities this year.

Two factors contributed to this undoubtedly painful decision, taken "with great regret." First and foremost, the "limited time available," given that the call for proposals for organizing, postponed by the Municipality, expires on January 16th, leaving less than a month until February 12th, the day of the first parade. "Under these conditions, it's impossible to adequately organize either parades or our own groups. Every event requires the right amount of time, especially when it comes to tradition and quality." There are also concerns about the proposed program, "which doesn't fully reflect our expectations and values."

And again: "Our long-standing and long-twinned associations have continued to promote the traditional Cagliari Carnival over the years, even without funding , so as not to interrupt a deeply felt and popular tradition. This year, however, we are forced to stop: it is no longer possible to continue like this ."

"We recognize the importance of this event for the community and apologize for any inconvenience our absence may cause," reads the statement from Sa Ratantira, which does not rule out a return in future years. " We hope to collaborate again in the future to create initiatives that are aligned with our goals and that will be welcomed by everyone."
