The Cagliari-Uta prison is "a time bomb that risks exploding at any moment ". This was denounced by the general secretary of the Fns Cisl Sardegna Giovanni Villa , in a note in which he expressed concern for the fact that " a significant number of inmates appears to have seriously jeopardized the security of the prison and the safety of the Penitentiary Police personnel and anyone who works there in any capacity, even the safety of other non-troublemaking inmates".

"For days the prison seems to have entered a dangerous vortex in which a precarious security situation is reflected due to continuous positions taken and delinquent acts carried out by problematic inmates who would decide, as far as we know, even who to accompany them to the city hospital", the note reads, "otherwise physical aggression is triggered against the unwanted policeman, doctors, nurses and/or anyone who is on site at that moment, whether inside the prison or outside for a hospital visit".

"If this were true - the note continues - it would mean that the path of no return has been taken and that in a few days the entire prison could end up in the hands of the inmates who, as we have known for some time, do not miss an opportunity to attack the Penitentiary Police who feel abandoned to themselves given the Administration's inaction in transferring the most problematic inmates. On the contrary, from other prisons problematic inmates are continuously assigned".

" It is absolutely necessary to intervene before this happens - the conclusion - and first of all it is absolutely essential to re-establish order and security by intervening immediately to transfer the responsible prisoners. Let's not wait any longer and intervene before someone dies".

So from Fns Cisl the request for an urgent meeting: «The Penitentiary Police staff is holding up, we don't know for how long yet, in a tough work context that strongly encourages psycho-physical stress».
