The “Alias” profile arrives at Ersu in Cagliari. The tool - available to transsexual students who do not identify with the gender assigned at birth - will allow them to use their gender identity which does not correspond to their biological one in places of education. The new career is framed as a bureaucratic, alternative and temporary profile, reserved only for transgender people . It is already adopted in various schools and universities, but it is the first case of activation in Italy for an institution for the right to education.

The Ersu of Cagliari thus wanted to respond to the requests received in recent months. There have been around twenty applicants so far, but the number could grow in the coming weeks. For the organisation's leaders, this is " a fundamental step to express and build identity on an individual and social level and allow those experiencing the transition period to do so in total serenity". This is an administrative procedure which, on the basis of a confidentiality agreement between the user and the Ersu of Cagliari, provides for the possibility of changing the personal name of the boy or girl to the chosen one in internal registers and documents , in the case are transsexual people or have started a transition process.

For the service - active from today on the Ersu website - you can submit the request by accessing the mask that indicates this possibility. The applicant will be asked to fill out a form with the procedure to be sent only and exclusively to the service contact, in total confidentiality. Whoever starts the process will keep the identity assigned at birth in their official documents until the entire transition is completed and their identity card is renewed. But for all external procedures (catering and accommodation services, for example) the name they have chosen indicating their new gender identity will be used.
