Ok to the works, which will return to the city of Cagliari a renovated San Benedetto market location in step with customer needs. But the operators want to see clearly, because to date the information obtained from the Municipality is too little, and the doubts grow as January 26, 2024 approaches, the deadline by which the market will have to be freed .

In the three years needed to complete the restructuring, the boxes will move temporarily to Piazza Nazzari , right next to the Teatro Lirico: «We are not against it», explains the president of the San Benedetto committee, Massimo Ruggiu, «but we would like to be informed by the Municipality as regards the news, the contracts".

It is precisely the climate of uncertainty that frightens us: «We don't know how things will be», says another boxer, Alessio Boi, «when we return to the transfer market, if the concession will be renewed, how, with what conditions and criteria, if my bench will remain this. We have never seen a project», he continues, «we have seen nothing, we are in the dark about everything ».

Something more could emerge from today's meeting, a discussion with the engineer and the Municipality, where we will try to clarify things: «We have questions of a practical nature», explains President Ruggiu, «for the positioning of the boxes, the dimensions, the utilities". In fact, among the operators there is also concern about the spaces available in the temporary headquarters , which will inevitably be revised downwards. In fact, the area, however large, remains of a much smaller size than the current one. «Even if temporary», the boxers explain about the new home in Piazza Nazzari, «we want it to be the best possible. But in the meantime we'd like to be informed on the progress of the works , so as not to risk that the temporary site becomes permanent».

In these three years, the boxes will come to life inside small prefabricated buildings. The area, on the other hand, will remain barred during closing times. But there are also those who are thinking of the new market: «Modernization is important», says Piero Ruggiu. «Certainly the architectural barriers will have to be eliminated. But it would be nice», he suggests, «that with the restructuring we think of something innovative, such as the possibility of cooking fish , for those who wish. We should think of a ventilation system, and cooking would take place with an electric system».
