Another significant step in the path of the cause of beatification of Sister Teresa Tambelli, the nun Daughter of Charity, superior of the Navy kindergarten in Cagliari, accompanied by the reputation of sanctity. The "Congress of theologians" of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints has just recognized in the life of the religious the constant disposition to do good with continuity and without hesitation.
«Without this official recognition - underlines the postulator general, Father Giuseppe Guerra - Sister Tambelli's cause would have stopped definitively. Now it is destined to move forward and in the coming months it will be examined by the cardinals and bishops of the Dicastery presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro. If this too is positive, the "Tambelli trial" will be evaluated by the Pope who with a decree will declare the heroic virtues of the nun of "is piccioccus de crobi" and of the "ladies of charity". Only then can Sister Teresa be called "venerable". It is difficult to establish exactly when this first, fundamental phase will be completed. I hope as soon as possible."
The path
Sister Teresa Tambelli spent ten of her 57 years in Cagliari (1914-1924) at the school of Sister Giuseppina Nicoli, beatified on 3 February 2008, inheriting not only her duties and works, but also - as has been written - «the method, the fineness of line, the purity of life, the piety and the indefatigable generosity." The Roman "process" of the cause of beatification follows the diocesan phase started on 14 December 2015. On that occasion the postulator general presented the "supplex libellus" to the then archbishop of Cagliari, Monsignor Arrigo Miglio, for the opening of the Inquiry local on the life and works of Sister Tambelli. Having obtained the positive opinion of the Sardinian Episcopal Conference (6 February 2016) and the "Nihil Obstat" of the Holy See (23 June 2016), on 6 November of the same year the archbishop opened the first session of the trial. In three years the diocesan tribunal heard 55 witnesses and the historical commission examined a thousand documents preserved in 9 Sardinian, national and international archives (archive of the mother house of the Daughters of Charity in Paris). «Historians and theologians, who at different times have analyzed the life and virtues of Sister Teresa Tambelli, have moved - explains Father Giuseppe Guerra, postulator of the cause - in the wake of Pope Francis' magisterium, driven by the "fama sanctitatis", that is of the common opinion widespread among the faithful of Cagliari of a Sister Tambelli perceived as a witness to Christ and the evangelical beatitudes".
