Classes were supposed to start today at the Michelangelo scientific high school in Cagliari, ahead of the first official bell on the Island that will ring on Thursday. But here comes the hitch: everything has been postponed.

The school website states that "due to delays in returning the premises affected by the work begun last summer, as well as the interruption of the electricity supply in the central office in via dei Donoratico announced for Tuesday 10 September 2024, the School Council has decided to move the start of lessons in all offices to Wednesday 11 September 2024 with reduced hours, from 11 am to 1 pm, for the entire first week".

Meanwhile, the Region sends its best wishes for a good start to the school year. "Schools and the world of education in general," this is the message from Education Councilor Ilaria Portas to the world of schools, "are living in times of great change, and change, undeniably, also brings with it difficulties to deal with. The world of schools would like and should keep up with the times, and politics works to make this happen, but it is not always easy to make the times of evolution of the world and technology coincide with construction and school programs. Climate change in recent years has also led to a reflection - also at a national level - on the opportunity to postpone the start date of the school year or alternatively provide solutions so that students do not suffer from high temperatures. Without wanting to deny that critical issues exist, I want to reassure all of you that Schools and Education are truly at the top of the priorities of the regional political agenda: it is the challenge of our times to ensure a dignified future for new generations."

And again: "The Todde council is investing significant resources to guarantee not only the basic right to education, but to ensure that the time spent in schools is always pleasant and of quality. Our task is to try to make your study path as close as possible to the dreams, desires, ambitions and hopes that you have for the future. The challenge will be to build together an education model tailored around the needs of students and the Municipalities of Sardinia, to combat the now long-standing scourge of school dropout that afflicts our island. We need choices that are determined not only by statistical data, but also by the specificities and problems of our land. The best way to reflect on this issue is a regional law on education, a tool that has been missing in Sardinia since 1984. The time is ripe for everyone to work on it together. Happy school year, good luck!".
