Accidents between cars and light rail are becoming more frequent in Cagliari: "We need greater safety, with innovative systems already in use in other cities." Opposition city councilor Nando Secchi (Lega-Anima Sardegna) argued this in a question , along with his coalition colleagues, calling for the administration to intervene to stem the phenomenon.

The critical points are the level crossings: «The recent episodes highlight the need to strengthen the prevention and control measures in the

intersections between the road network and the light rail line,” explains Secchi. Modern technologies such as radar sensors, Pai-Pl systems, and monitoring cameras “are already available and adopted in other cities to reduce the risk of accidents.”

To prevent accidents, the document states, "it is essential to adopt effective safety measures, such as the installation of barriers and light and sound signals. Citizen safety and the flow of urban traffic must be top priorities for the municipal administration, especially given the increase in vehicular traffic in the city (over 130,000 cars on the road and an average of 170,000 daily entries)."

For this reason, the mayor and the councilor for mobility are being asked "what immediate measures they intend to adopt to ensure greater safety at light rail level crossings (e.g., installation of complete barriers, improved light and acoustic signals, obstacle detection systems)" and whether "a plan for extraordinary maintenance and verification of the current safety infrastructure is planned."
