Graduation grade plus donations made during the year. The sum of these criteria led to the awarding of merit grants for students who graduated in 2024, organized by Avis Provinciale of Cagliari, Avis Regionale of Sardinia, and Avis Provinciale del Medio Campidano.
The ceremony took place at the Caesar's Hotel in Cagliari, attended by City Council President Marco Benucci, Councilor for Health and Wellbeing Anna Puddu, Head of the Regional Coordination System Pietro Manca, Head of the San Gavino Blood Transfusion Center Dr. Atzeni, and Head of the Brotzu Blood Transfusion Center Dr. Fadda. Also in attendance were the health directors of Avis Regional Dr. Argiolas and Avis Provincial Cagliari Dr. Gaviano, the regional president of ADMO Dr. Adriana Vacca, academics Prof. Frau and Dr. Ballicu, and Superintendent of Education Peppino Loddo, along with the Avis municipal health organizations of the provinces of Cagliari and Medio Campidano.
Avis has issued 100 checks on a regional basis: 34 in Cagliari and 9 in Medio Campidano.
It was also an opportunity to take stock: the Cagliari provincial Avis collects approximately 21,000 blood bags each year, over 40% of the regional total. In 2023, approximately 80,000 bags were collected in Sardinia, with demand requiring the importation of an additional 30,000 units.
The initiative also demonstrated how academic achievement can be combined with civic engagement. "A concrete testament to young people's ability to perform in both areas," Avis stated. "It was also an opportunity to renew the established synergies between Avis, blood transfusion centers, and donor associations, strengthen collaborations with partner organizations like ADMO, and introduce many young people to the association who, perhaps one day, will be able to become active participants in the world of blood donation. This result confirms the value of donors and the younger generations, who contribute to the common good every day through study, commitment, and solidarity."
