"The arrival of the new Extraordinary Commissioner has not created any new prospects for improvement for the current emergencies on the daily working conditions of nursing staff. Those who can escape to other companies and those who stay turn to the union." This is what Diego Murracino, regional manager of the Nursing up union, claims, who has declared a state of agitation at Arnas Brotzu in Cagliari and asked the prefect to convene a round table to avoid the strike by opening a cooling-off procedure.

Among the reasons for the state of agitation is the " persistence of the demotion and professional disqualification of healthcare professionals, nurses and midwives, due to the lack or absence of support staff ", Nursing Up reports. "For the lack and absence of the social health worker, Arnas Brotzu has received multiple convictions from the Court of Cagliari. It has been found that in all the hospital wards of the Businco facility, the social health worker is not present during night shifts to provide basic care to the hospitalized patients".

Among the other critical issues reported by Nursing up, «the failure to pay or recover the thousands of hours worked in excess , the incorrect valuation of the hours of work to be assigned in relation to paid leave under Law 104, the number of nursing staff in service in the departments lower by several units than the number envisaged by regional accreditation ale and the failure to replace the staff present in the organization chart who have resigned or retired , the presence in almost all the hospital wards of a number of permanent beds dedicated to routine activity that is higher than those declared and assigned by the Sardinia Region to the various specialists , the absence of the nurse in the CAT service at San Michele during the night shifts during the week and during the day and night shifts on holidays and Sundays, the improper management of the personnel assigned to assistance in the hospital wards for logistical functions of protection».

"The combination of situations makes the working context of healthcare professionals working in the hospital wards extremely negative and harmful," Murracino points out. "Failure to comply with contractual rules, signed agreements, sentences, commitments made by Arnas Brotzu, failure to respond to numerous reports on the critical issues of the various hospital wards make a normal union discussion futile ."
