The agreement between the Municipality of Cagliari and the Consular Corps of Sardinia was signed this morning at Palazzo Bacaredda to strengthen international relations and promote the Sardinian capital worldwide . The memorandum of understanding is based on the principles established in the 1963 Vienna Convention and aims to strengthen existing relationships between the municipal administration and consular representatives , creating new opportunities for collaboration in the institutional, cultural, economic, and tourism sectors.

Among the commitments undertaken, the Consular Corps will promote the image , history , and economic potential of Cagliari in embassies and foreign authorities, while the Municipality will guarantee logistical support and sponsorship for consular initiatives.

Mayor Massimo Zedda emphasized the strategic value of this agreement , noting that Cagliari is an open city and this protocol is not just a formality. The intent is also to " foster the integration of foreign communities " and "build cultural and economic bridges that enrich the region."

Gavino Pinna , dean of the Consular Corps of Sardinia, highlighted the Corps ' role as a catalyst for opportunity . The Consular Corps has always been committed to " building strong relationships " between the countries it represents and Sardinia. "Today, approximately 50,000 foreigners live permanently on the island , mostly concentrated in the metropolitan areas of Cagliari and Sassari , to whom we offer various types of assistance , in synergy with local institutions," the Consul explained, also recalling their commitment to Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war and their commitment during the Covid-19 pandemic , to providing medical care and family reunification.

Furthermore, "with this agreement, we are making our network available to promote Cagliari worldwide and to support initiatives that foster dialogue and cooperation ," Zedda and Pinna concluded.
