Protests by families erupt over the early closing of the Satta nursery school in the city center. With a resolution approved on May 8 and communicated in the evening of the same day, the school board decided to transfer the activities to the building on Via Falzarego starting from June 9, with a reduction in hours until 1:00 p.m. and suspension of the canteen service .

A decision taken to allow the start of fire safety upgrade works on the building, postponed from 2019.

Among the most critical voices is that of Enrico Lobina, parent of a child enrolled in the school and former city councilor : "If the building was not up to standard, it should have been closed at the beginning of the year. The parents have planned their lives counting on a service until June 29, with full hours and lunch. Now, suddenly, everything is up in the air. It is an interruption of public service."

Lobina also highlights the economic consequences for families: "Who will pay the babysitters to cover the uncovered hours? The municipality? The school? It is unacceptable that the families are the ones who pay the price, as always."

Meanwhile, in the Municipality, opposition councilors Roberto Mura and Roberta Sulis have presented a question to the Mayor, Massimo Zedda, to ask what the timescales will be for the adaptation of the building and what guarantees will be given to ensure entry to the school in time for the start of the new school year in September.

The school principal, Elisabeth Piras Trombi Abibatu, immediately clarifies that the decision was made for safety reasons by the school «the Municipality has nothing to do with it» and that the works can no longer be postponed : «The risk is there, we could no longer wait. The works have been postponed until June precisely to limit the inconvenience. The transfer to the complex on via Falzarego is the only possible solution: the spaces of the current building would not have allowed for safe activities, especially in the courtyard».

The principal adds that the elimination of the canteen in via Falzarego is due to the need to transform those spaces into classrooms to host the temporarily merged sections.

"Unfortunately we are still far from the culture of prevention - he concludes -. We are working to ensure that at least a part of the building is ready by September. The choice of part-time is what allows us to respect the work schedule".

Meanwhile, the municipal councilor for Public Education, Giulia Andreozzi, has expressed full willingness to find a solution : «A meeting is already scheduled to take stock of the situation together with the school and Public Works».
