A ferocious and completely gratuitous attack , triggered "simply because we were passing through Piazza San Michele." This is the frightening account of a young woman who witnessed what happened on the evening of December 18th near the university cafeteria on Via Premuda , Cagliari, where several students were targeted by a group of about fifteen people, suffering serious facial injuries and a 30-day prognosis.
Initially, it was thought to be a single incident, the one reported by the student association Unicaralis . But the toll of the evening was further aggravated by the accounts of those who directly experienced those moments of violence. "There were two attacks, ten minutes apart," the witness recounted. "First, against a boy who was going to the cafeteria for dinner, then against my group of four. Two of us managed to escape to alert the police."
A lucid and detailed account, which conveys the full brutality of the incident. "The attacked students suffered facial fractures requiring surgery, with a prognosis of 30 days. What is particularly striking is the complete gratuitousness of the act: we were attacked for no reason, simply because we were crossing Piazza San Michele." According to witnesses, the attackers were young people between the ages of 16 and 18.
This incident refocuses attention on an area already plagued by security issues. A little over a year ago, a similar incident prompted Unicaralis to forcefully urge the city administration to take concrete action to redevelop the neighborhood. But judging by recent events, security remains an issue yet to be resolved.
