Cagliari, sailing therapy expands: the Naval League and Lions Club inaugurate the fourth boat.
The outings, lasting an hour or a little more, are led by instructors trained in Paralympic sailing.Under the blazing afternoon sun, dozens of people attended the blessing and first launch of the new Hansa 303, the latest addition to the Cagliari Naval League's fleet dedicated to sailing therapy. This vessel brings the number of vessels available for sea excursions for people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups to four.
The purchase was made possible thanks to the Cagliari Lions Club, with contributions from private sponsors and institutions. The vessel will be managed by the Italian Naval League, supported by the Vento di Shardana Association. "We will be able to bring even more young people and people with disabilities to the sea," says Rear Admiral Giuseppe La Rosa, president of the Cagliari Naval League. The trips, lasting an hour or so, are led by instructors trained in Paralympic sailing. The simple and stable boat is also designed for those with no previous sailing experience. The project also involves young people from the Juvenile Justice Center, who are accompanied aboard to discover the sea and learn the basics of sailing.
The idea began eight months ago. The Cagliari Lions Club raised funds by organizing a show at the Carmen Melis Theater, adding the proceeds to sponsorships. "We wanted to give young people and people with disabilities a better chance to experience the sea," explains President Gabriele Asunis.
