A 46-year-old was hospitalized in serious condition at Brotzu with facial fractures and underwent delicate surgery on his jaw and eye. He would have been brutally beaten with a cross wrench.

The other, a year younger, then showed up at the barracks a few hours later, seriously injured, saying that - when he was in the company of the other man - they were attacked by five or six people they didn't know.

He too was rushed to the emergency room and admitted to the Santissima Trinità hospital for multiple traumas. The hypothesis of an attack with a brawl, however, does not seem to completely convince the police who are looking for evidence. The motive for the beating is unknown.

The alarm was raised shortly before dawn yesterday morning by some people who were passing through Viale Trieste and who called the force's operations centre.
