City held hostage by violent protesters, FdI: "The mayor's party joined the unauthorized demonstration, a serious matter."Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
While the Digos (Italian Special Operations Division) is reviewing footage to identify the people, almost all of whom were masked, who threw bottles and stones at police officers during demonstrations in Cagliari on Saturday, controversy is erupting in the city.
Why were there marches in Cagliari, why was permission granted for the march that started from Via Cervi, why did Mayor Massimo Zedda support an unauthorized event?
The interrogation
Roberto Mura, an opposition city councilor, submitted a question on behalf of the center-right. "The mayor is the president of the Progressive Party, which participated in the unauthorized demonstration that led to clashes with the police and a general state of insecurity in the city. Such participation, coming from a party whose president is the mayor himself, could be interpreted as a politically and institutionally significant act, potentially impacting the relationship of trust with the police and the principle of neutrality of the municipal administration."
The mayor
"Freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate were achieved in 1945 when freedom and democracy prevailed. If they, the fascists, had won, we would be in prison, innocent, if not worse, in concentration camps," to paraphrase Vittorio Foa, an anti-fascist, Jew, partisan, activist, and socialist elected to parliament as an independent member of the PCI. Provocatives and violent acts must always be stigmatized and condemned," replies the mayor.
Condemnation of the rally
Francesca Ghirra, a member of Parliament for the Progressives, is clear. "We strongly condemn the national rally organized by CasaPound and Blocco Studentesco, an organization openly of fascist inspiration. These events are an offense to the community, to historical memory, to the values of the Constitution, and to all those who fought for freedom and democracy in the country."
