He attempted to escape from the Cagliari court but was stopped, with no small amount of difficulty, by prison police officers. Five of them were injured, each with 10 days of prognosis.

The protagonist, as announced by the autonomous prison police union, is a prisoner of Algerian origin.

«Yesterday morning - explains Luca Fais, Sappe secretary for Sardinia - the prison police personnel of the translation and guarding service of the Uta prison, coordinated by the deputy in charge, thwarted a daring escape from the court of Cagliari : the prisoner, at the end of the hearing, when he was taken to the detention ward of the Cagliari court on the lower floor, he managed to break free and escape, being chased several times by the policemen. He managed to free himself by attacking the staff and getting out. Only thanks to the promptness and agility and tenacity of the policemen was he definitively blocked again ».

The man must now also answer for evasion and contempt of a public official.

«In the light of this averted event, Sappe can do nothing but point out and denounce what it did in the last meeting at the local office, that is, the serious shortage of 20 units that the local Nucleo Scorte cannot bear - remarks Fais - From this deficiency it follows that yesterday's translation was carried out by only 8 units of escort personnel, when in reality, according to the operational protocol, the personnel should have been double in number, i.e. 16. All this is no longer tolerable because it is worth the salute cop's psychophysics. We immediately invite the Cagliari management to fill the gap of missing units in the inventory sector".

Donato Capece, general secretary of Sappe: «It is only thanks to them that it was possible to thwart the sensational escape of the escaped prisoner. But the serious affair brings to light the (often neglected) security priorities with which the men and women of the Penitentiary Police have to deal with on a daily basis ».
