Mourning in the city of Cagliari. Mohamed Said, the manager of Palm Beach and historic field hockey player has died : in the sporting environment, due to his Egyptian origins, he had earned the nickname of the "Pharaoh" .
He was 50 years old , and had arrived in Italy twenty-seven years ago, in 1996. Well known in the city, he was much loved by customers and his collaborators at Palm Beach, one of the Poetto kiosks.
A sudden death that left the many friends who shared his stay in Cagliari with him incredulous. Born in Egypt, he played for his country's national field hockey team . Giuseppe Loi, coach of Amatori Cagliari, convinced him to cross the Mediterranean. A fast striker with a great eye for goal, he resisted the lures of formations from the peninsula and remained in Cagliari, where he continued to play first for Cus Cagliari, then for Suelli of the Argentine Carlos Retegui (father of Mateo, who made his debut for the national team of soccer).
He began, while he was on the hockey fields, to set up the first entrepreneurial activities in the restaurant sector at Poetto. When he was registered with Suelli, he gave birth to the Club House in the sports area of the small town of Trexenta. He hung up his shoes and stick and devoted himself full time to entrepreneurial activity in the area that struck him the most upon his arrival in Cagliari, the Poetto beach. Ten ago the beginning of his latest successful initiative, the management of Palm Beach, at the fifth stop , his second home until his last day of life. The news of Mohamed Said's death immediately spread throughout the Cagliari hockey world, arousing, after the first moment of disbelief and bitterness.
Condolences also from the mayor Paolo Truzzu, who wrote on Facebook: «You had so many projects in mind and we should have talked about them together at the end of the summer... You stayed in Cagliari for love, after the magical years of hockey, a sport in which you were a champion. And above all, with your Dayla, you were one of the kings of Poetto with Palm Beach. A Cagliari native to all intents and purposes, slang included, whimsical and always available… Hi Mo».
