Cagliari is also under an orange alert . Mayor Massimo Zedda has ordered the closure of all schools, daycare centers, parks, and cemeteries for today, Saturday, January 31st. These will be open only for receiving bodies and mortuary services.
This is the decision taken after the Coc meeting following the orange alert (for hydrogeological risk) and yellow alert (for hydraulic risk and storms) issued by the Civil Protection for the whole day of Saturday 31 January .
As usual , Pirri is under special observation for flooding, where parking at the Terramaini swimming pool is reserved for residents only. The parking lot is located on high-risk streets included in the municipality's hydrogeological risk plan. It is also noted that the civil protection plan for Pirri provides for access restrictions and road closures in the event of adverse weather conditions and flooding .
The ordinance urges residents to "avoid travel as much as possible, especially commuters," and to "keep access roads to hospitals clear."
This evening, the University of Cagliari released a statement announcing that today, "Saturday, January 31, 2026, teaching activities will continue as normal." The statement continues, "The University recommends that students, faculty, and administrative staff exercise the utmost caution and limit travel to what is strictly necessary, taking into account weather conditions and the instructions of the competent authorities."
