"Sassari can become a tourist destination." This was stated yesterday in the Angioy Hall of the Provincial Palace by the regional councilor for tourism, Franco Cuccureddu , during the conference, promoted by Orizzonte Comune, entitled "The Contribution of Civics to Development Strategies."
Council member Todde also dwells on the New Year's Eve event, which could feature Zucchero as the frontman, and which is causing some controversy in the city. "We need to understand the strategy and look at the moon, not the finger," he states. "I'm interested in letting all of Italy and all of Europe know that Sardinia, for the past year in a row, is the place where New Year's Eve is celebrated with the best artists."
A driving force to increase visitor numbers by taking advantage of the island's favorable conditions, from climate to safety, and to extend the tourist season. "We're becoming a winter tourist destination, something that was once unimaginable even for us, when we were seen solely as a seaside destination."
He then urges us to transcend political barriers. "These are crucial issues that have no ideological connotation, and New Year's Eve has no political connotation. We need to let people know that Sardinia is here, as a tourist destination."
The discussion unfolded during a meeting moderated by Gianni Carbini, provincial coordinator of Orizzonte Comune, which expressed the positions of various administrators belonging to the civic movement founded by Cuccureddu. Mayors like Giovanni Maria Budroni, mayor of Tissi, argued that people should be at the heart of our communities.
Giovannina Fresi, mayor of Monteleone Rocca Doria, said: "We need to shift our perspective, from the large to the small, and understand the richness that comes from communities like ours." Speakers included Giuseppe Mascia, mayor of Sassari; Federico Tolu of Muros; Maria Lucia Tirotto of Castelsardo; Roberto Carta of Oschiri, who recalled the origins of civic engagement; Liana Derudas, councilor of Ossi; and Massimo Rizzu, municipal councilor of Sassari. Nicola Lucchi, a representative of the civic council that led Sassari from 2019 to 2024, also spoke. Then there was the spotlight on the younger generations, represented yesterday by Maria Grazia Falchi and Angelica Baldus, who created Orizzonte Giovani.
