He had to wait for days, from the bed of the Santissima Trinità hospital in Cagliari, with a fractured jaw . And all because in the maxillofacial surgery department there was no drill , necessary to perform the operation.

It is the misadventure that happened to a 75-year-old woman from Milan, who has been spending the summer in Sardinia for many years, where she has a house. «On 28 July», she says, « while I was alone at home, I fell ill and lost consciousness . When I woke up, I was on the ground and was bleeding." Hence the intervention of 118, whose assistance is praised by the lady, who transported her to the emergency room of the Monserrato Polyclinic.

«After the necessary tests, a fracture of the jaw in several points emerged , which required an intervention. So I was diverted to the Santissima Trinità of Cagliari ». So far so good also because, she says, the woman has discovered «a department of excellence. If I coordinated Sardinian healthcare, I'd be proud. The entire staff is not good, more». Here, however, is where the problem arises: « They explained to me that the drill, the main tool for that type of department, had been missing for a month . I would have understood one day, it can happen that an object breaks, even if having a spare one wouldn't hurt. But I find it absurd», he adds, «that we remain without supplies for so long: there were other people hospitalized like me, and who knows how many others there were in the space of a month, between falls, or maybe a fistfight».

Initially a new transfer was proposed to her, this time to the Brotzu, but in the meantime her stay in the hospital continued. Eventually, the drill is loaned by Brotzu to the Santissima Trinità . In the meantime, however, thirteen days have passed. The woman is discharged after sixteen : «The operation went perfectly, I'm better than before. They took care of me exceptionally, also supporting me from a human point of view. All the staff», he says, «have my total gratitude. It is a pity that I have to work in these conditions and that Sardinia, which I am fond of, still has these limits».
