It started with a thorough check and an impressive display of forces on Good Friday in the wholesale fish market of Cagliari. Before dawn, men from the Coast Guard and the Local Police showed up in the building to carry out "checks aimed at ascertaining the regularity in the marketing of fish products in the capital".

According to a communication from the Harbor Office, four violations regarding the lack of traceability of the catch were ascertained and contested: fines for a total of 6,000 euros were imposed and approximately 190 kilos of fish were seized.

A portion (about 75 kg), after evaluation by healthcare personnel, was donated to charity for people in need. The remaining product was partly thrown back into the sea, because it was still alive, and partly destroyed, because it was unsuitable for human consumption.

During the operation, the local police also imposed two sanctions for irregularities on vehicles used for the transport of fish products and the Coast Guard imposed two sanctions for irregularities found on board a professional fishing unit.
