From abandoned spaces to green spaces with educational gardens, areas dedicated to sports, games and furniture.
There are 50 municipal school gardens that will be redeveloped in Cagliari , as part of the project financed with Pon Metro React Eu funds . The goal is to allow students to play sports but also outdoor lessons. The works involve nursery schools, nursery schools, primary and secondary schools, for a total surface area of 170 thousand m2, 80% of the school green spaces. The total cost of the works is 3.3 million euros.
The "Cagliari Est" lot is currently at 80% of the work progress , while the "Cagliari West" lot is at 20% . The installation of gazebos, protected by shading, and furnishings (seats and picnic tables) is also planned. Many of the outdoor spaces will have educational gardens. Mayor Paolo Truzzu was satisfied and commented on the project on his Facebook page: «There has been no intervention on school gardens since the 1990s. We care about the world of schools, children, teachers, families and school leaders. In good weather you can study and play outdoors in beautiful places."
«With the works that we are gradually completing – explained the mayor – we can allow younger people to make the most of the beautiful climate of our city to carry out educational and sporting activities outdoors for much of the year in suitable environments , decorous and in step with the times." At the end of the works, approximately 50 thousand Mediterranean shrubs and essences will be planted. In each school there will be a sub-irrigation water system (previously absent), connected to a storage tank, connected in real time to a telematic detection system that allows irrigation methods and timing to be modulated based on the humidity rate of the soil (i.e. to irrigate only when the need actually exists) and report any faults or malfunctions.
