A person reported for the fire that broke out this morning inside the building of the regional state property illegally occupied by migrants in via Riva di Ponente, in Cagliari.

And a meeting of the public safety committee was urgently convened in the Prefecture.

Around the table are representatives of all the forces of order, firefighters, the Municipality (the deputy mayor Giorgio Angius, the mayor Paolo Truzzu is engaged in a meeting of the Anci in Rome) and, above all, the Region: he owns the 'property which was engulfed in flames following a dispute between some of the occupants.

For decades that building has become a refuge for the homeless and displaced, many of whom are foreigners: despite numerous episodes of petty crime, it has never been evicted. In the night there were more than forty. Today's fire could trigger the reactions of the institutions.

"The institutions and the competent authorities are already in contact and working to bring the situation back to a state of full legality," assures the councilor for local authorities, Aldo Salaris.

«As the owner of the property affected by the fire, the Region, in concert with the competent authorities, immediately took action to bring the situation back to a state of full legality. In this sense, as soon as the work of the Fire Brigade is finished, we will proceed with the definitive closure of the building , in such a way as to avoid the risk of new occupation, also in consideration of the conditions of the building itself, therefore of the state of danger of the structure" .

The president of Anas (National Association of Social Action) also intervenes on the matter Claudio Cugusi, who with his ambulances intervened day in and day out in the occupied hovel as well: today's, he says «is yet another episode of dangerous degradation in that hovel defined by the newspapers as Hotel Disperazione, and once again proposes the theme that this social network has repeatedly denounced, unheard.
There, dozens of young Africans without residence permits and in clandestine conditions live in inhumane conditions".

The consequence: brawls and drug dealing, from Piazza del Carmine to the Marina. «It is not clear», concludes the president of Anas, «why the Institutions, all of them, do not take steps, given the evident unavailability of the building, to order the immediate eviction and reclamation, at the same time identifying accommodation for these unfortunate people ».
