The whole of Sardinia mourns Antonello Lai, a journalist's life dedicated to giving voice to the most humble and needy. “Tziu Lai” lost his life on Thursday, after ten days of hospitalization at Brotzu following an illness. He was 68 years old.

The church of Sant'Elia in Cagliari, where the funeral took place, was completely packed. The many who could not find a place in the stalls stood on the sides of the nave, and not everyone managed to access the church, having to settle for listening to the ceremony outside the entrance. Among the hundreds of people present and immersed in emotion were also the president Alessandra Todde and the mayor of Cagliari Zedda.

«We express gratitude to Antonello for everything he was capable of sowing in his life», declared Monsignor Ottavio Utzeri at the beginning of the celebration, and then defined Tziu Lai, during the homily, «a true politician and a true journalist. His approach to life has always been to stand at the service of the community and the weakest people. The doors open wide for him to live in the eternity of God."

Lots of applause and thanks as the coffin came out. "You are a great Antonello, you will always remain in our hearts", shouted those present to pay homage one last time to those who gave so much for others in life and received all the affection of those present back today.
