The most significant change could be the main square. No longer Piazza Yenne, but Largo once again , now that Via Roma has been cleared of construction. "Still to be decided," says Maria Francesca Chiappe, Councilor for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment . Another new development is that this year there will be no stage in Piazza Garibaldi.
For the rest, the formula chosen by the City Council to celebrate the longest night of the year remains the same: a widespread New Year's Eve, with multiple squares filled with music (in addition to Largo or Piazza Yenne, the Bastione di Santa Croce, and Piazza San Domenico) for the New Year's toast, and more days of celebration. But without a sold-out artist . While Arzachena is banking on Achille Lauro, Olbia on Marco Mengoni, Alghero is still undecided, and Sassari on Max Pezzali (not yet official), Cagliari is repeating last year's choice, which (re)ignited controversy in the City Council: there will certainly be an international artist, but a second-rate one ( Diodato's name is being circulated ).
"A clear political choice, not a renunciation," explains Councilor Chiappe . But for Pierluigi Mannino, leader of the FdI group, "Cagliari is losing its role as a regional capital and is being overtaken by other Sardinian cities."
