They could be very important meeting points for the numerous inhabitants of the Is Mirrionis district in Cagliari . But the many squares in the district have been in conditions of extreme degradation for years, without any redevelopment ever being carried out.

Just go into via Enrico Serpieri at the end of via Serbariu: the pavement is completely uprooted, walking is risky due to the large roots of the trees that come out of the ground as well as the large pieces of stone present. The situation near via Monsignor Piovella is no better: here is added the neglect of the sidewalks, where episodes of falls have occurred several times. Furthermore, none of the squares has a name: as if they were places without an identity. Among the most critical points stands out the large space in front of the market in via Quirra.

«This square has never been rearranged, even if the terrible conditions in which it is found have been pointed out several times: already years ago we proposed to give it a name, but this appeal too fell on deaf ears. The whole neighborhood of Is Mirrionis calls for a little more attention to these points, because it is unacceptable that they are in this state», observes Maurizio Fanzecco of Acli Is Mirrionis, «they are very large and have great potential, but if no one intervenes".

Real non-places, as the French anthropologist Marc Augé would define them, for which the need for an urgent redevelopment intervention has been pointed out for some time, both by the many elderly people in the area, for whom walking and moving in these conditions is insidious, as well as by university students who rent here. Appeals, however, up to now, have fallen on deaf ears.
