In a busy corner of the city center, between the arcades of Via Roma and Largo Carlo Felice, a stone was laid this morning: "Dedicated to those who flee from suffering and seek shelter with us."

With this phrase, which emerges from the rough surface of the pavement, Cagliari writes a new chapter in its civic history.

The initiative was conceived and implemented thanks to the contributions of doctors, nurses, and administrative staff from Cagliari's ASL 8, with the support of the municipal administration.

The stone was unveiled by Health and Wellness Councillor Anna Puddu, who called the installation "a stumbling block for the conscience," an invitation to reflect on the profound meaning of hospitality.

"The engraved phrase represents a message addressed to everyone," he declared, "to the citizens of this land and to those who come from far away, bringing with them pain, hope, and the desire for redemption. Because solidarity and the promotion of rights are not abstract words, but the beating heart of this administration."

Representatives of numerous organizations that provide daily assistance to migrants and the homeless were also present at the ceremony. Many citizens also stopped, moved, to listen and share the meaning of that simple yet powerful gesture.

Silvana Tilocca, one of the initiative's promoters, emphasized the symbolic and operational significance of the event: "Today we are planting a seed. We want this stone to be the first of many, and for a network of places that speak of humanity, respect, and rights to emerge from here."
