An average of one million euros per month. In fact, the Municipality of Cagliari collected fines in 2023, when local police officers imposed 96 thousand administrative fines. Of these: over 5 thousand are linked to parking in the stalls reserved for residents, in the historic center but also in Poetto, in the summer period.

«But no fury against public establishments: just think that there are 145 violations reported. The sanctions for noise violations amount to 59, and 86 for violations of public land." These are the data that emerged from the hearing of the service manager Giambattista Marotto before the Security commission of the city council, chaired by Marcello Polastri. The councilor comments: «Cagliari is therefore a mostly correct city, which respects the rules, because its inhabitants are around 160,000 with surges in summer during the tourist season. The fines are therefore contained for a period of one year." The amount instead emerges from the managerial decisions that appropriate the amount.

The final sum is also affected by the system imposed for payment, criticized by the Democratic Party representative, Camilla Soru: «They wanted to highlight that the sanctions against the premises were few», she explains, «but if I get a fine for parking , I pay it and it ends there. Instead, a restaurateur, for example, who has perhaps exceeded the concession by even a few centimetres, pays the first fine, then has his authorization to place tables outside suspended. And after months he also receives a further fine, sometimes of thousands of euros. It depends on the municipal regulation", underlines Soru, which must be changed".

«It must be said that the attitude of the police», Polastri maintains, «is a proactive, educational attitude, never “sheriff-like”, beyond some mostly exaggerated controversies».
