It seems they want to save their Saint, running at full speed to secure him for another year. A mission that for the Discalced of Cabras is a duty, an honor, a way to feel at peace all year long.

At sunset on Sunday, a great moment of faith unfolded: the Discalced Friars returned the statue of Saint Salvatore to the church of Santa Maria. A thousand men dressed in white and one racing heart. Every step was a promise, a thought for who knows who, an act of faith.

It's 7:40 PM when the red flag can be glimpsed from afar in Via Tharros, decked out for the occasion and shielded by numerous police forces given the large number of faithful: it is the symbol of a story that only in Cabras unites everyone.

There they are, shouting "Evviva Santu Srabadoi!" and their strength in their legs grows ever stronger. They are welcomed like victors, by the warmth of their country and by the countless tourists who are moved by what lies ahead. They couldn't believe they were seeing such a mixture of effort, faith, pride, smiles, and tears.

They set out from the ancient village of Sinis around 6:30 PM, immediately after Mass and under a scorching sun. They walked the same route as they did Saturday morning at dawn: eight kilometers on foot, first on dirt roads and then on asphalt, carrying the Saint on their shoulders . After this feat, it's time for tears, but also for pain. Many manage to walk with great difficulty . Some immediately ask for a glass of water, others look at the cuts under their feet. But everyone is happy to have made it, to have fulfilled their vow.

For them, it's not the end of an event, but the beginning of a new year under the protection of their Jesus. The statue arrives in procession from the entrance to the village to the church, with the entire community surrounding the Saint as an escort. Then it returns to its place, awaiting a new magic. Another page of history waiting to be told.
