One of the favorite "tracks" is Piazza Stagno. They whiz by on scooters at full speed with modified mufflers, but there is no shortage of shouting either. For the young people of Cabras it is the new entertainment, a phenomenon which however is creating quite a few problems.
The mayor, Andrea Abis, reports the matter, underlining how many people knock on the doors of his office who are fed up with living with the noise in their ears from 6pm onwards.
«Unfortunately this situation is becoming a significant problem, there are many kids who have fun in this way, from the outskirts of the town to the historic center. They run like crazy. For them, fun is making noise. I no longer count the complaints from citizens who ask us to intervene to stop them", says the mayor.
But not only that: there is also the issue of safety: "Many people do wheelies - continues Abis - with all the dangers involved".
A few days ago Abis asked the police to intensify checks to try to stop this phenomenon: «Five boys have already been sanctioned. What is striking, however, is that some parents have come to our offices to defend their children."
A few days ago it was the mayor himself who chased one of the many young people: «I had just gotten into the car, I was about to leave when a boy passed by running like crazy. At that point he was stronger than me and I tried to chase him. After several kilometers I managed to catch up with him, I got out of the car, introduced myself and asked him why he used his scooter in that way. He was speechless and begged me not to inform either the local police, for fear of losing the scooter, or his parents." Meanwhile, the traffic police continue their targeted checks.
