The beef was ready to be cooked and served to the restaurant's customers . But that meat will never end up on the restaurant's tables: it had expired three months ago and was seized by the NAS Carabinieri. The operation began in recent days as part of the health and hygiene prevention activities envisaged by the "Jubilee 2025" campaign , organized by the Carabinieri Health Protection Command, to reduce and prevent health risks associated with food contamination and incorrect traceability.
Officers from the Cagliari Anti-Adult Food Safety Unit inspected several restaurants in Cabras , seizing 122 kilos of beef from one of them . It was three months past its expiration date and had been subjected to an incorrect freezing procedure. Another establishment was found to be in breach of the HACCP self-monitoring manual, a mandatory document for food safety. The owners of the two restaurants were reported to the local health authority, and fines totaling €12,000 were imposed.
The Oristano provincial Carabinieri command announced that checks will continue at commercial establishments and restaurants to verify compliance with hygiene and food safety regulations.
