With its 2288 hectares it is among the largest in Europe. However, just 125 fishermen work in the Mar'e Pontis pond in Cabras. Or rather: these are the ones that are members of the consortium, therefore they work legally. Then there are the squatters who operate at night: from the stories they are more or less the same number. Those who work at sea are still 125, for a total of 250 operators . A slightly higher number than a few years ago. However, the phenomenon of illegal construction which has always existed does not change: a crime in all respects.

Yet there are those who think they have the right recipe to bring legality within the pond: it is the mayor Andrea Abis. "Many more fishermen could work in the pond: it is true, however, that now it is not producing as it once did and the blame can be attributed to both the public and private parties."

Abis spares no one: «If the Region intervened with a serious reclamation, the body of water would certainly be healthier, therefore richer in fish. There would be more income and more possibility of welcoming operators."

The mayor also takes it out on the Consortium's fishermen who manage the pond: «They should keep up with the times. For example, they have never organized water excursions, yet in summer tourists would accept this type of proposal. There is no tourist activity linked to the compendium. But they are also behind with the sale of products: in 2024 we cannot think of selling just a few fish or being satisfied with the turnover of fishing tourism. The pond needs serious planning."
