Different passions. Interest as well. What they have in common is only age, 23, and the mission they want to carry out: to do everything to prevent the town's young people from abandoning the crystalline sea of the Sinis to seek their fortune elsewhere.

Gianluca Mele and Francesco Contini are the youngest candidates presenting themselves in the municipal elections at the end of May, when the citizens of Cabras will also be called to the polls to elect the new mayor. The first takes the field to support the current mayor Andrea Abis, Contini is alongside Gianni Meli. Gianluca Mele is attending the fourth year of Law in Sassari. He has a dream: to become a magistrate.

Contini is a kitesurfing instructor. But he is also a champion on the waves: he has won many medals overseas. Together with his father he runs a kiosk in Mari Ermi. Both have clear ideas about the future of their country.

Mele does not imagine a city council without young people: «We are the future ruling class of the area. I believe in the active participation of young people in local decision-making processes. Kids can't be spectators." He sees tourism as a sort of salvation: "If exploited well, it can have repercussions on any economic sector".

Contini feels he is the spokesperson for his peers, which is why he decided to run: «I would like to create something in Cabras that has never been there for young people. My idea is to transform the huge and beautiful Piazza Stagno into a meeting place for young people. There it is possible to build anything and everything such as skateparks for example. We need a breakthrough."
