Mayor twice but in two different and even distant municipalities. As a young man, it was 1958, in La Maddalena, where he carried out his work as a master. And then to Cabras, in 1965, his father's town. Today Cabras has lost a piece of history: Salvatore Zoccheddu died at the age of 101 . He would have turned 102 on May 16th.

The former mayor, who had fought in the Second World War, always on the DC bandwagon, was also a councilor in La Maddalena. These were the years of poverty, after the bombs and devastation. The country had to restart and Zoccheddu had the reins in his hands. In Cabras, however, he arrived with experience and maturity. Those were the years of Don Efisio Carta. Everything was missing in the lagoon town, including primary services . To everyone, when Salvatore Zoccheddu talked about himself, he always told an important coincidence. In 1941 the former mayor bis, father of Ivo Zoccheddu, for years councilor of the Municipality of Cabras, was supposed to be embarked on a submarine for a mission to Japan, but he fell ill with typhus. And thank goodness. Because that vessel sank in the Gulf of Guinea : thanks to the illness, Zoccheddu essentially survived.

Many are currently remembering the former mayor on social media. «In addition to his undisputed ability as an administrator, what is remembered is his human and cultural depth. An important figure leaves us who actively contributed to the development and growth of the town of Cabras", writes the Cabras Pd Club in a note. The funeral will be celebrated tomorrow, Saturday 17 February, at 3pm in the church of San Pietro, in Solanas.
