Cabras, another Caretta Caretta nest: it's the third in the Sinis Peninsula.

Quartz beaches, with loose grains, aren't ideal. But it's also true that the Sinis has always been a transit area. So say the experts. A new Caretta Caretta nest was discovered in the Sinis this morning: the third on the same coastline during the summer season. This time, the turtle left tracks in S'archeddu and Sa Canna. It was a woman, a biologist by trade, who noticed the turtle's passage while walking a few meters from the shore .
“It followed its footprints, the characteristic sign of its passage surfacing and returning to the sea,” explains Elisa Mocci, coordinator of the Regional Network for the Conservation of Marine Fauna. “So now we have three nests in the Sinis, a curious event.”
Furthermore, the nest was discovered in an unexpected location, specifically on a dune, in an area difficult to excavate. Now the question is: is it the same turtle? Who knows? It will only be possible to determine the exact location after the nest has been opened and inspected, in about 50 days: the timing depends on temperatures, winds, and the heat of the beach. CNR biologists, alerted by the woman, arrived immediately on the scene.

The area, as per protocol, has been cordoned off and closed to traffic. This is the third case in the Sinis region in just a few weeks. The first nest was placed in Maimoni on July 10th.
Six days later, another discovery was made at Sa Mesa Longa, on the San Vero Milis coast, and today again in the Cabras area. This is the sixth nest in Sardinia. On June 3rd, a turtle laid its eggs at dawn on the Maladroxia beach in Sant'Antioco. It then reached the water and left its eggs covered in sand on the beach. Then, at Porta Taverna and Petto.
