55 days of waiting and 100 cancer patients queuing at Businco in Cagliari for breast surgery. A "dramatic and exhausting" situation, the one described by the regional manager of USB Sanità Gianfranco Angioni in a letter addressed to the general director Arnas Brotzu, Dr. Agnese Foddis. «Following the various requests sent, the operational project for the reduction of the waiting list for breast cancer surgery is urgently requested ».

«The situation would certainly improve – suggests Angioni – if at least 40 hours of additional services per week were activated to be distributed to the surgical team (1 anesthetist, 2 surgeons, 1 instrumentalist, 1 field nurse and 1 OSS). This would allow us to perform quantifiable surgical interventions in a month for approximately 12/13, which would be in addition to the 18 patients who are operated on per week."

It remains indispensable - to be able to carry out surgical operations as normal - not only to increase the hours but also to strengthen "the staffing of the operating theatres, in particular of instrumental nurses and anesthetists. The redefinition of the staff would also make it possible to reactivate oncological surgical interventions on an outpatient day surgery basis, which have currently been interrupted", concludes Angioni.
