The smaller of the two Corongiu reservoirs has been completely dry for the past two years. Today, it's full, as is the much larger upper reservoir, both of which have been fed by the rains of recent weeks .

Corongiu, which once provided water to Cagliari and the surrounding area, now supplies only Burcei through an old pipeline on the mountain that Abbanoa is restoring using innovative techniques at a cost of three million.

The construction site involves the first three kilometers of the pipeline from the water purification plant, precisely the most "damaged" section of the entire pipeline , devastated by large water leaks that have often left the town of Burcei dry, causing inconvenience and protests from users.

Three million euros are being spent to optimize the pumping system at the Corongiu and Perdaxeddu plants and to build the bypass line for the first nine-kilometer section of the pipeline, which reaches Burcei. This project involves rehabilitating the old network using hose-lining techniques, and is scheduled for completion by March.

In a few years, Corongiu water could also be used by the Southern Sardinia Land Reclamation Consortium to irrigate the fields of Sinnai and Maracalagonis . The first phase of the project, funded by the Region at the end of 2023, is currently being studied by the Land Reclamation Consortium, with a cost of approximately three million euros. In the future, it cannot be ruled out that Burcei will be supplied with water from the Simbiritzi water purification plant. This is more than just an idea; Abbanoa is already working on it.
