Mobilization to put out the fire that broke out in an area of woods and Mediterranean scrub. Helicopters and Canadair in flight. Situation now "under control"Massive mobilization of men and aircraft to put out a fire that broke out in the Burcei area.
The flames attacked a large area of forest and Mediterranean scrub just outside the town, where there are also sheepfolds, some vegetable gardens and even some vineyards.
Several heads of cattle were saved by the farmers themselves while the aircraft began to pour a lot of water onto the flames.
Several helicopters from the regional fleet immediately intervened. Subsequently, given the extent of the fire, which is affecting a slope to the west of the town and is fed by a strong east-north-east wind, the intervention of two Canadairs stationed in Olbia was requested.
On site, in addition to the Forestry Corps, also the mayor Simone Monni, the Civil Protection and the Masise volunteers. The regional councilor for the environment was also informed.
In the evening, the update from the Forestry Corps: «The fire has covered an area of approximately 8 hectares of Mediterranean scrub and some cork oak parcels . The shutdown operations are still underway, there has been a significant improvement in the situation, which is considered under control by the staff directing the operations. A night patrol and further clean-up operations have been arranged for the early hours of Tuesday."
Meanwhile, the police are ready for an inspection as soon as the situation allows.
The belief is that the fire was arson , with the flames set in at least two points and with the arsonists who may have acted by taking advantage of the strong wind and heat of the day.
