Meeting today in Cagliari, on the occasion of his first official visit to the Sardinian capital, between the new British ambassador to Italy, Edward Llewellyn, and the mayor Paolo Truzzu.

The diplomat and the mayor discussed various issues, focusing on the potential of the city with a particular focus on renewable sources and energy efficiency, the environment and urban green, public transport and soft mobility. But also accommodation and tourism as a source of attraction for new investments.

The meeting in the town hall was also an opportunity to reaffirm Sardinia's ties with Great Britain, starting with Cagliari.

Married with three children, the diplomat was previously the British ambassador to France. Prior to that, he served as Margaret Thatcher's private secretary (1988-1992) and as head of cabinet for David Cameron. Chosen by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, he took up service in Rome last February in the place of Jill Morris.

For him as a gift a parchment of the skyline of Cagliari, and an invitation to attend the 366th edition of the feast of Sant'Efisio.
