The vaccines are there but they are not being distributed . This is the heavy accusation against the regional departments of Coldiretti Nord Sardegna , which relaunches the blue tongue alarm that is particularly affecting Gallura and bringing breeders to their knees.
" Vaccines are available, but it is imperative that they are delivered immediately to breeders, especially those who need to move animals," says President Antonello Fois, underlining that failure to do so promptly "could lead to serious consequences for the sector."
Not just vaccines. Another essential weapon to fight against the spread of the disease is antiparasitics : «The competent departments let the continuous appeals of the breeders fall on deaf ears», attacks the director of the association Ermanno Mazzetti.
Coldiretti is also calling for a "coordinated and timely" intervention to avoid blocks in livestock sales. "Bluetongue is now a constant threat, we cannot afford to be caught unprepared," Fois observes, recalling that the association has long been calling for the activation of task forces ready to intervene in critical situations like the current one. "But we continue to not have the right answers," he laments.
The disease is spreading and the anger of the breeders is ready to explode : «This situation – explains Michele Filigheddu, Anacli delegate for Sardinia – could have been prevented by administering the vaccines in the past months . Now it is difficult to work and move the animals as needed by the companies, the immobility of politics is causing serious damage to the companies already tried by the lack of hay and the drought».
