«Given the technical characteristics of the plants, Glencore's disengagement process becomes more and more irreversible every day and a rapid and effective reaction from the Region and the government is urgently needed to this umpteenth act by the company, which continues to agitate the issue of the cost of energy despite the fact that in the various meetings it was revealed that that issue is not central but that there is a rebound of responsibility that is no longer tolerable».

The reaction of the general secretary of the Sardinian CGIL, Fausto Durante, after the company sent two letters was harsh and indignant: the first officially announces the shutdown of the San Gavino foundry, the second the stop of production in the lead line in Portoscuso.

Durante notes that this is "a serious signal, confirming, over and above the aspects related to legal disclosure obligations, the fears about Glencore's real intentions with respect to the confirmation of its commitment in Sardinia and the concerns about the future of the activities in the production of lead and zinc in Portoscuso, as well as in the San Gavino foundry».

In the light of the content of the corporate communications, the trade unionist claims, "the declarations of the Glencore top management take on a leftist trait and a dramatic concrete perspective".

Durante announces a strong initiative, to be proposed to workers, to counter the company plan of slow disengagement: a response of mobilization and struggle that calls into question the social responsibility of the company and its obligations towards employees, the territory, all Sardinia.
